Good points Edd. I am pretty frugal and always look for cheap or free ways to do things. Right now, I'm trying green tea and stinging nettle spray on the little mildew I have on my courguettes because it's very almost free.

Although it is best to grow potatoes from new seed potatoes they aren't expensive everywhere. I got mine this year from Wikinsons for 50p in their sale, and they weren't passed it. Next year I plan to get mine from a local potato day - look them up on the net and check out local gardening clubs or allotments, as you can get them very reasonably from these sources.

If I were you Bekkie then I would definately try growing a fairly large crop, but I would go for varieties that have good resistance to blight and other nasties, and that are known to be good croppers. Here is a good source of that info:

You know Edd I saw you posting in this and I was half expecting you to have come up with an ingenious way of growing potatoes in the compost bins - sorts crop rotation problems and space in one easy go!

Those beloved bargain bins are wonderful aren't they!!

I also love a bargain, but from bitter experience, with the exception of salad spuds, i wouldnt grow anything but the sharpo varieties now image
