My Lilac is dying.

My lilac bush is dying. It's about 10 years old and has been growing and flowering really well for several years since we planted it in the garden (previously it was in a pot). I don't usually need to do anything with it.
I noticed today that it has brown streaks on the leaves and whole sections of the bush are affected. We haven't changed anything in the vicinity, other than removed a bit of bindweed earlier this year but nothing else.
Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated, I think it might be lilac blight and I need to cut it back severely to try and save it
