How do you take cuttings from plants?

    Monty was doing softwood cuttings on GW on Friday. May be worthwhile having a squint at iplayer. Personally I would do semi-ripe cuttings but each to his own.

    Thanks Hogweed, not watched Friday's episode as yet so will do that. What's a 'semi ripe cutting?

    Semi-ripe cuttings are taken by cutting the...er...semi-ripe, i.e. partially hardened wood at the base of the current year's shoots.  I missed it on Friday too image

    Hi, I'm new to the forum but just wanted to tell Caral that I've always had success taking lavender cuttings from any new growth at the top of the plant - the leaves feel softer and the stem will feel pliable but firm. This method has worked for me with "old fashioned" lavender and the newer varieties.

    I've never had a potting shed image but this forum more than makes up for it - thanks everyone for brightening up my day image
