Begonia
My neighbour has planted masses of begonia plants in 2 open sites in the garden but although planted out approx. 6 weeks ago they are not putting on much root and look quite sad. They are being watered daily as site dries out quickly. I wondered if the site was too exposed as it gets the sun from midday to late evening but I don't grow them myself so am not familiar with their habits. Anyway, could anyone suggest any rescue measures that I can pass on please as it's a lot of money wasted otherwise? Many thanks

I think I'd cut down on the watering - maybe every other day. Although they can be thirsty plants I think that they don't like to be too wet - just let the soil dry out a little between waterings and see if helps.
They ought to be able to cope with sunshine.

Are talking about begonia sempleflorans? As Dove said already i cut down on the watering, after my experience from last with probably over watering i lost quite a few with botrytis ( its like a grey mold what appears on the lower leaves where it most moist/damp/wet and slow destroys the plant eventually ) i pick of any leaves what have signs of botrytis.
Now i let them nearly dry out and they done a lot better this year.
Yes, begonia semperflorens. I will pass your useful tips on and fingers crossed they will recover and start flowering. Thanks for your help.
