What happened to this rose bud?

image

Just gone to dead head my roses and noticed this on one of them and I've never seen anything like it. All the other buds have come out normally so I've no idea what went on with this one.

Figured someone on here would know better than me.

    Hi JenniBee image

It's a Robin's Pincushion gall, caused by a type of gall wasp - some info here  http://www.bugsandweeds.co.uk/galls%20p1.html

Wow ! What I wouldn't give for Dove's gardening knowledge. Serious respect ! I'm quite new to this forum and would love a Dove on my shoulder while I'm gardening ! Felt very privalaged when I recently posted my first question and Dove was the first to put forward answer. Loving this forum and all its contributors !

I think that's Dove's knowledge of native plants and all things related Lily. They're very common on wild roses.
