Trimming Back Honeysuckle Bush

I have moved into a new house and the garden is a bit of a mess. We have a couple of honeysuckle bushes that are out of control and I want to trim them back a bit and shape them. Is it ok to do this at this time of year; how far back can I cut down a branch; and is there a risk that they won't flower later on. Any advice would be appreciated.

You can cut them back, but you will lose any flowers this year and some next year. They can take a hard prune and will come back from the bottom. If you do cut them back now, feed them well and keep the soil quite moist. This will give them the best chance for next year.
