Hi Dougi For me the soapy water thing does work. I've had a terrible problem of black fly ( a type of aphid ) on my broad beans this year. The ants have been / are stil trying to farm them. As they love their sweet poo ! Be careful to make it reasonably weak as my first application was too strong and scorched the plants abit. Double damage ! Roughly one teaspoon of washing- up liquid per approximately 400ml of water in a spray bottle seems to work ok for me now. How often ? Depends on how bad the problem is, and how effective the first few treatments are. Try starting with once a day for a few days and then see how things are.

I also find you can't beat a good bit of squishing ! I generally try and do this on a daily basis. Where you can see the little blighters rub gently with your fingers to squash and kill them. Can't beat a good bit of aphid wipe out ! Hope this helps. What are the aphids on by the way ? Outside or green house ? As sticky traps in the green house can also help. Good luck !
