Can I plant my Lilies?

Hi There,

I'm really new to this, so if this question has been asked and answered already, please accept my apologies.

I'm still very new to gardening!

My Mum kindly bought me a pot of lillies from Lidls this weekend and they've been thriving wonderfully in my kitchen, however I'm wondering if I can plant them and if they're likely to survive? If I do plant them, am I better to do so on a bed or in a pot?

They are already in a pot (rather than a bouquet) with soil, but I thought I might be best to check with the experts first!

I look forward to hearing your replies.

thank you in advance, Becky.

Hi becky, yes feel free to plant them but try not to disturb the soil they are in as you could damage the roots, then give them lots and lots of water at the roots, do you know what type of lily they are? image

They look like that?? sorry, I'm not good with plants. I have a stone wall at the bottom of my garden with soil on the top, though it's not very deep. is it best not to plant it there and use another part of the garden or are they ok with shallow soil?

    Thank you for your help.

As long as its as deep as the pot, you should be ok, you might need to stake them with a stick or garden cane as they can get a bit top heavy, if the soil is poor, its a good idea to put manure on there in the autumn too. They are oriental lilies, possibly a variety called stargazer, one of my faves image
  • That's great. thank you for your advice! I look forward to seeing how they turn out. They're my favourites too...hence my Mum buying them as a gift image

They look like "Stargazer" Becky, in case you wanted to know or look them up. image

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
