bugs?

was looking at my lillies today and they are being ravished by lilly beetles but i then found what looked like catetpiller poo. took one off to inspect and it actually looks like a small slug disguised ad poo. does anyone know what this is and what to fo next. never seen anything like it before. thankyou

    yep.  They're the lily beetle larvae, and they cover themselves in their own poo as camouflage. Squash 'em.

    Hi just double checked this as its been a while since I heard that its the lily Beatle young. They look like little slugs, but the bit that stuck with me that I had to check was that they carry their poo around on their backs Nice ! They can be known to strip a plant and cause a lot more damage than their pesky parents. So I'd get rid of as many as possible if I were you. Good luck !

    Someone suggested (I haven't tried it yet) spreading a white sheet of something under the plant and giving it a good shake.  The resulting shower of aduts, larvae and pupae could then be ceremonially squashed.  This is because the adults drop off the plants when disturbed and land on their (red) backs, with their (black) venrtal surface upwards so you can't see them  Clever, eh?
