No fruit on Cox's Orange Pippin

Small orchard in Kent on clay in farmland, with apples 6, pears 5, cherries 2, peach 2 damson 1, plum 3. Everything has set fruit (even the plum that I pruned hard) except Cox's Orange Pippin, which is normally a great cropper. So plenty of cross-pollination, remarkably wind-free during blossom time (this is quite a windy place usually), and although it was so wet, all the trees had the same issue, but no others were affected. This is the first time that the Apple has failed in the 5 years I've been here, although the tree is probably 15 years old. Otherwise the tree is in good condition, and even a new Bramley has fruited in its first year. I am at a loss.

I heard somewhere that it if they are allowed to crop very hevily, it can push them into a more biennial crop routine, i would still have expected a few flowers tho? Maybe it just needs some extra tlc image

Has it been pruned recently?  I once stopped a tree fruiting by pruning it so badly I removed most of the fruit buds!

Funny you post this - my apple tree (very established) hasn't shown any sign of producing a single fruit this year however the old owners told me its normally very prolific. I'm hoping it's having a year off and after a good prune come winter will be ready to reward us heavily next year. I'm going to be digging all the soil around it with rotted horse muck as extra incentive for it.
