Potted Christmas tree

Tina39Tina39 Posts: 19

Hello! I have a potted Christmas tree from last Christmas that has burst into life with lots of new bright green growth. Should I repot it and, if so, how much bigger should I go with the pot? I would be grateful for any advice as I'm excited that it has actually survived!

    Thanks for the warning chrissieB!

I'll try to keep it going until next Christmas by repotting and giving it some TLC. Thanks for the advice. image

hello, I bought a really mini-version of one of these a few years ago as a temporary tree before we decorated our lounge. potted it on and then left it outside for the rest of the year. because it grew so big, transplanted it into garden and now it's nearly 5ft tall !!! it's doing really well, has put on a lot of growth this year as well.

am definitely NOT bringing it back inside.

    good luck with yours

I have a Christmas tree a couple of years old, bought as a tiny tree for the coffee table, it's now about 3ft tall. I couldn't believe mine survived that first year...image

All good advise from above, I'd just add, when potting up plant it in a plastic pot and use something light for drainage at the bottom because you'll need to carry it indoors again at Christmas. I've placed the plastic pot whilst outdoors into a nice decorative one.

We got a lovely Blue Spruce at the GC last year and had it at the front door at Christmas. We re-potted it in a large trug sized pot with a mixture of JI No3 and ericaceous compost and it has thrived.

The new growth this year is amazing and although it doesn't seem as if it has increased in height it is now very bushy.

We are planning to just keep it outside the front door and put on the lights and tinsel every year to make it feel special!

  • Hi, I need some advice. I bought a lovely potted tree as seen in picture in December. I purchased a large expensive ceramic pot which allowed me to monitor water levels. As you can see in the image over the festive period. No needles fell either. I did send a few emails and texts to the supplier as it was mentioned about supplementing minerals etc when we made the purchase..but nobody replied to my messages.

Anyway in January we found a place in the garden out of the wind and ensured the correct water was maintained, however approx 3 weeks ago the top began browning.

Then over the past weeks it is in the state you can see now....doesn't look too healthy.Have you any

    suggestions?
