Watering Dwarf Delphinium's

WillsWills Posts: 262

Hi can anyone advise me where I am going wrong I am watering my young delphinium plants form above like I do with all my plants but every morning when I check them I have leaves that are mottled and dying they are no pests on them and the only other thing I am doing is leaving them out during the day to harden them off then I put them in the green house over night they are dwarf magic fountain this is the first time I have grown them if I keep taking dead leaves off them I will soon have no plants left 2 put in my beds.

I would have thought that you could leave them out all night now, there's not much chance of frost now (unless you're in another country or far north of course).

are you going to plant them in the garden ???

mine are outside, have been for weeks now and we're in wet/windy South Wales. Although (for a change) it's been more like the South Coast here for a few weeks. got to make a space for them in garden now.

when you say the leaves are mottled, what colour is the mottling ???

Shazza i'm in sunny Glasgow ha Ha yes I am going to plant them in my garden ive been leaving them out most of the day then i put them away at night  the problem appears to be when I water them the leaves are turning a very light fawn  colour if that makes sense they then wilt and that's the end of the leaves there not pot bound and I use a liquid feed on them once a week . I just don't know where I am going wrong with them ,i'm wanting to put plant them out but I am not sure if they will survive .

Wills - they  possibly  need potting on if they're not big enough to plant out. You might be overfeeding them which won't help. What size of pot are they in? They really should be outside and in the ground by now unless they're just small seedlings.  If they're decent sized plants, prepare the ground they're going into properly, water in well when you plant them out and don't water again until they're really needing it  image

Nothing to lose Wills. I'd have potted them on for a bit and then planted out but the conditions are good just now so worth doing. If you've got quite a few, pot on a couple so that if all else fails you have a couple of stronger plants to put out.

Great weather here isn't it! image
