Pruning

Hi all, I have an apricot tree which i have neglected abit (alot!), i understand pruning for fruit produced on spurs, but cant figure out where this will fruit from. Its got a bit unruly. Help please ! image

    John Cushnie's How to Prune, says: 

    "... Apricots fruit on 2 year old wood and older.  Some fruit may form at the base of 1 year old shoots.  Thin the shoots to leave them 15-20cm apart.  Shorten side shoots back to 5 or  leaves.  After fruiting is finished shorten these shoots to 3 leaves.  Where they have formed side shoots these are reduced to a single leaf.  The unwanted shoots are pruned back to 5 or 6 leaves to carry fruit the following year.  Prune out old unproductive branches without leaving a stump and train a young shoot into the space to replace it."

    Fantastic, thanks guys, thats the job for today then, that and beheading the grape vines as per beechgrove gardens last friday!

    Does this method transfer to plums too? image
