Help needed re my French Beans

Any help and advice regarding French  Beans would be appreciated. I have planted them after they grew great from seed. Its just that they appear to be going an odd colour green.

They are losing that lovely healthy darkish green colour and instead going a very light pale, blan colour green??

I dug a trench and it was filled with well rotted manure.

Would anybody know whats happening and whats more, what I could do to improve them?

Your help would be appreciated.

Did you harden them off, Mark?  If you didn't, they will sulk for a bit but should soon pick up.

I had a disaster with beans this year, so probably not qualified to comment- but i will! Try a foliar feed of something like SM3 and a wind break, they really dont like temp fluctuations when they are little. Im sure more advice will follow, hope your beans feel better soon image
  • I didn't harden them off. Started them in my poly tunnel and brought them out during the start of the recent hot weather.

They have been out for just over 2 weeks. a few have been started by slugs, but I have put pellets down.

They also appear to be rather slow in growth.

Where do I get SM3 or Foliar from? Or is there another application I should put on them?

Morning, Sm3 is from the organic gardening cat, you can use liquid seaweed etc but ive found SM3 to be really good. I dont suppose you live near coventry? image

It sounds like your beans will be ok any how, just throwing a tantrum!

They're just getting adjusted to new conditions - they would have got away quicker if you'd hardened them off - the roots will be growing - soon the tops will be growing  and they'll be fine.

I find that slug pubs work well in the veg patch.  I don't like to eat veg grown in ground that has been treated with slug pellets.
