gentle climber

Is there such a thing?

I have a newly erected bamboo screen hiding my ugly oil tank. Its hung on a fairly substansially built timber frame, and is stapled to the frame within an inch of its life...

Id really like a little climber against it.. preferably something that flowers, and fits my cottage garden type theme. I dont want anything that grows too fast, or gets big and heavy and will pull it down / destroy it though. any ideas? it will also need to be in a container, or planted into a very shady & damp in winter border.

thank you!

Trachelospurmum or something like that but spelt correctly! Its evergreen, has pretty, scented flowers and judging by the ones i planted last year, grow well, but not a triffid!

I think its other name is chilean jasmine image

What about some annual climbers - you can have different ones each year - sweet peas one year, Black Eyed Susie the next, and then Morning Glories - that'd fit in really well with the cottage garden theme image

Or you could try an edible like runner beans image

Or one of the alpina clematis. They don't grow too big.

Clematis viticella cultivars would be worth trying. Long flowering season and tolerate hard pruning.
