Cherry blossom fungus

http://file:///C:/Users/Laura/Desktop/White.jpg

I have a cherry blossom tree growing in my garden (recently moved so not one that I planted).  It grows at quite an angle in a shady part of the garden.

One of the lower branches looks to have been lopped at some point and is not growing any leaves.  It is covered in large white patches.

On the main trunk (underside as it is growing on an angle), there is a powdery green substance (lots of lichens).

Basically, I am trying to work out what is going on with this tree - full of leaves but only produced about 10 clumps of flowers in the spring and the growths on the trunk & branches make me want to keep the kids away from it!  Any advice gratefully received!

Not sure, cherries arent that long lived, they seem quite suceptable as most of the ones on the estate i live on seem to have been damaged in the past, its defenately a fungus, i hope its not honey fungus. Have a look on the RHS site, you may be able to find out.

Im sure someone else on here will know, good luck image
  • Thanks, I think I am going to remove the branch with the white fungus and see what happens!
