My yellow standard rose is white

Just checking before I go back to the suppliers ... is it possible for a rose flower to come out initially as white but be a very bright yellow inside?  I think I'm trying to be positive and hopeful at the moment but I think I may have been sold the wrong colour.  The standard rose was new last Autumn and is planted with one red and one pink cascading rose in the same plot, which is about 1m50 by 80cm.

Some flowers do change colour as they age, what variety is it? image

I'm not sure.  I think it was just advertised as a yellow standard rose.  It was from Parkers.  They've still got other colours in stock but not yellow ones.

It might be worth giving the supplier a call, they may not be out of stock at all, they might just have issues with that variety. Ive known flowers get lighter as they age, but if you have white and want yellow, its unlikely. Why not just wait and see, im sure its lovely! Have you ever been to david austin roses? They often reduce roses, lots of bargins in the poorly plant section image

Thanks Rebecca.  Parkers do offer a great after sales service so I'll just wait another couple of weeks to check that it is definitely the wrong colour and then contact them.  Yes, I've trawled the David Austin roses website quite often.  It's a great website and they seem to have an excellent reputation.

Hi Chrissie.  No, it's not fully open yet.  I haven't grown roses before so I did wonder.  Thanks - I'll be patient and see what it looks like when it's fully open.  I think some of the photos on the gardening websites distort the colour of plants and then it's a disappointment when you have a certain colour in mind.  Thankfully I think I'm finally at the stage where I just need to buy single plants to plug gaps so I can get them from a local nursery/garden centre and see exactly what colour they are before buying them image

    Thanks Chrissie image

  • I've learnt that they can be completely different colours in bud compared to flowering. One of mine that had deep red buds has turned out to be a vibrant shocking pink when it's flowered lol
