Where's the radish?
Hi I need some help here. I've grown a patch of radish, variety SPARKLER, but all I have are leaves one foot tall and no radish except for a thin half inch stick in the ground. What am I doing wrong?

You need to incorporate a lot of compost or other form of humus in the soil so it will hold the moisture needed to swell the root. Never transplant them or very few will swell up. Never let them get too dry either and ensure you have previously enriched the soil with a quick release fertilizer.
The flowers are pretty in a quiet way if they've missed the radish stage
In the sticks near Peterborough
I am also having a hard time growing radishes - also sparkler. Have mine growing in compost in large grow trug. First lot came up and I only got 3 or 4 small radishes. Second lot are growing ok but still not a lot of radish, just top growth at the moment. They get watered every day. Not sure where I am going wrong.
i think it,s just one of them years. i,ve never ever failed in the past to grow lots of them.. this years been a disaster for me.theres been a lot of hot days l. and they don,t like to much heat.
I grow a batch next to the parsnips which I cover with fleece the radish have been very good maybe the fleece helps.
Thanks everyone. I will have another go at growing some in a more shady part and keep them well watered. My soil is well manured so here's hoping!
