Mosaic virus
I was told 3 years ago, when trying to find out what the problem was with my plants in the garden. I left the garden dormant till now, It did appear that the garden was virus free so I proceeded to have another go. Suddenly like overnight it has re-appeared, this was the first time in the three years. I had started to introduce baskets and a few new plants to the garden. How can I get rid of this once and for all? It is so disheartening, So far the grape vine has not been effected, the worst effected is the chilli plants, which have now gone all yellow but are still producing leaves. What I cannot understand is why have my neighbours either side of me not got this virus.

Oh poor you, it's so soul destroying, isn't it?
i recently had a plague of red spider mite, followed by leaf minors...did masses of damage and I nearly gave up...but a virus is a whole new can of worms.
have you tried contacting an Eco gardening online site called Defenders? John is really helpful at answering questions and has many natural predators for other pests, though I don't know if this would work for a viral attack.
good luck and never give up
Mosaic viruses are usually host specific, so wouldn't affect everything.
Have you got any photos of affected plants?
Good point fidget
Tobacco mosaic virus will affect many solanaceous plants like tomatoes, peppers and chillies. It is often transmitted by smokers of tobacco handling the plants.
Thanks guys for your interest, I am trying load the photos just having a problem with them as well now.
Please let me know if these have uploaded as I am not sure if they have come through.
Hi Sybil
The best way to upload pics on here is to click on the green tree icon on the toolbar above where you type your post, and follow the instructions. This gives a picture which we can click on and enlarge to show fine detail.
If it doesn't work let us know.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Have you any more pictures. that looks more like a mineral deficiency, but it could be caused by herbicide(simazine)toxicity. You may need to get your soil tested.
If either side of you are not affected, I suspect that your soil has been sprayed with something that is either affecting the plant itself, or affecting the soil so that the plant cannot take up nutrients.
If you grow things in pots with new compost , are they affected as well?
Thank you for all your advice, I started a bag of compost this season from J Arthur Bowers - Multi compost. But if it was the compost then why have other plants got it that did not get any of that soil. Should I look up on the RH's website to see what they can offer in the line of soil testing? I feed with Tomato food, and ericaceous feed for the Acers and the Pieris's Plants.
