Allotment
in Fruit & veg
Hello there,
this is is my first year in growing vegetables. I have started easy with broad and runner beans, mini corn and tomatoes. All are in large pots doing very well in the garden. So I have filled in an application for an allotment I'm not sure whether I will get one or when but if I was to get one in the next fortnight or so would it pay to move any vegetables over? the allotments are all raised beds in a large greenhouse so maybe not a proper allotment but exciting for me non the less. If it wouldn't pay to move the vegetables could anybody help me out with ideas what to do with the bed.
Many thanks Neil

One of the problems about growing things like beans and peas in a greenhouse is a possible lack of pollinating insects, so I'd concentrate on things like salad leaves, lettuce, pak choi, japanese mustard leaves, and some successional sowings of Swiss chard will give you lovely green leafy vegetables throughout the winter. You could also grow carrots and beetroot.

Ahh that shows my inexperience. Ideally I need an outdoor allotment then. Thank you very much for the reply .
Well, you never know - the people running your scheme may have a solution to the possible problem - I'd make some enquiries if I were you. Other growers may be managing ok.

Neil one of the secrets of being an allotmenteer is Not to be shy, talk to everybody there once they know your there to stay and be a part of it advice will flow, watch what the other s with good results are doing, gofor it.
You'd be very lucky if you got one that quickly!
Its likely that any plot you got would be overgrown so you'd need tine to clear it before you plant.
What I've done is totally clear one bed so I can plant, and am clearing around it. It's bloody hard work but it'll be worth it
I've had to cheat this time round and buy plug plants to give me a head start. Next year I'll be doing it all from seed.
I've got sweetcorn, beetroot and potatoes in at the moment, with mini corn, more beetroot, redcurrants, sweet potato and cabbages waiting to go in
Sorry, I clearly didn't read your question properly
Neil I wish you luck your optimism is to be applauded as I have never heard of anyone actually growing the plants before applying for the allotment plot. You have brightened my day my friend.
