I thought the orchid looked more like the common spotted one. Dactylorhiza fuchsii. ?
Whatever you've got , Percy, I would let it do its own thing. Seed is microscopic and difficult to germinate, needs sterile conditions and a special fungus that assocoates with the roots. Digging it up usually kills them. If its happy where it is I'd leave it there.
Hmm, I thought Pyramidal because of the shape, time of year and depth of colour - also couldn't see any spots on the leaves - although I have seen Common Spotteds that have no spots
Percy, does your orchid have any spots on it's leaves?
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Nope has no spots on leaves, the plant is only about 12 to 14 inches from base to tip it looks big in that picture..Glad i went out something has been at my pond and knocked some marginal plants/pots over and now the water is all brown and murky grrrr
Runnybeak (conjures a not to pleasant image) that picture was taken without my knowledge, the first i knew of it was when i received a fathers day card from moonpig with that on it, my OH & kids idea of funny
Thanks Chrissie, i will try that, it has no spines so it's not a gooseberry...

Or of course, it could be a Flowering Currant Ribes sanquineum or a white currant.
We'll have to see what those little green currants do
Doesn't look like a gooseberry.
