Buddyboy, I lopped the thick stem about a month ago and took all the long side shoots right back thinking it would stop it. have cut the stems back as they where getting in the way of the other plants and across the window. just had another look at them the ones at the top are quite long again now. theres ants running up and down the stem also. now .
Now you say that it's grown that much in a month then whatever it is it's going to be much too big to grow up against a house and I'd hoick it out pretty quick and make sure you get the roots out too!
If it is a willow it won't be good news for your foundations and drains to let it stay there.

Pretty sure it's a willow.
Apart from the main stem the shoots are quite supple.

I don't think you need sieve the soil. It's not japanese knotweed

Yes, it's definitely a self seeded Goat Willow, they pop up quite regularly, and it will need digging out before it gets bigger!
