Can I take cuttings now, from a well established plant? & where do I cut, below a leaf joint? Will I slip it into a glass of water til it roots, or plant direct into pot? And what soil, will Innes Seed compost be ok?

I'd use something dryish and gritty for salvias. It's one of the few things I've had success with. I think I did them a little later in he summer when some wood had matured a bit. I did heel cuttings. But I'm sure someone who knows more than me will put you right
I do them like Verdun - but have equal success if I start them off in a jar of water, through little holes in cling film and covered with a poly bag. I usually root five cuttings like this in a jam jar.
