I have newts under the old concrete flower pots, I thought they needed water, but there never has been any here.

There is now, my daughter gave me some tadpoles and I dug a little pond for them. They never seem to be in it now, they are all over the grass/weeds up there.

Newton is really sweet. Hope you find more.

Newts, like frogs and toads, can survive quite happily out of water as long as they find somewhere dampish and out of direct sunlight. They only need water to reproduce which is what separates them from reptiles.

Phillipa, sounds like you have loads. I hope Newton remains happy enough here to raise a family (when he's all grown up, obviously)

Lyn, I never wanted a pond in my garden, but now the kids and I are toying with the idea of having a very small area where Newton can go to have a bath.

Mrs G, I think it's a fab name, but my daughter said I should have called him Sir Isaac. She's now in charge of naming the others (assuming there are any)

Fishy, hahaha, that was terrible, I couldn't help but laugh though image

Fidgetbones, the stamps were the first thing I thought of as I was reading your reply!

Aaahhh thanks for that info Fishy, that tips the scales in favour of digging a small pond, if we're to have any more Newtons around here.
