Turnips

StifynStifyn Posts: 26

My turnips have sent up a quite high lovely yellow flower. I know I can eat the flower ( apparently ) but do i leave the turnip in as they are small. How long for, if so? Or have they bolted and do I need to get rid?

They have bolted - you can enjoy the flowers (bees & butterflies love them too) but the turnips won't now swell, unfortunately.

Yep;  They do grow quickly, so plenty of time. image

I have been harvesting small turnips all week; shaved them with the potato peeler for salads (carpaccio of turnipimage), sliced them fine to steam. They were all about golf ball size or a bit smaller. Delicious and slightly peppery. Added the leaves to soup with the first pea pods (already emptied), then after blitzing the soup, passed it through a mouli legume; delishimage
