Diseased Almond Tree
Hi everyone,
I hope someone can help a very novice gardener!
I moved in to my home in August last year and discovered that I had an almond tree in the front garden. It had a lot of dead wood which I cut away and was being choked by a hedge which I have also cut back to allow a bit of air flow. It had beautiful bloom in the spring and has developed quite a bit of fruit. However the fruit have developed lesions that are weeping a clear fluid. Some of the fruit were small and shrivelled ( I have removed these). The leaves are shrivelling and distorted with a reddish brown discolouration. I don't think all this rain has helped.
Can anyone please advise as to what this may be and how I deal with it?
Thank you
Karen

Hi Karen, I think the clear liquid oozing from the fruit may be a response to them being attacked by aphids or a bug of some sort (can't really ID that one.) However, distorted leaves with a red colour sounds like Peach Leaf Curl, which affects almond tress, too. See the RHS advice on that:

As long as they aren't all affected, the usual thing to do is remove the distorted leaves.
Thanks Bob,
That sounds a lot more hopeful than I expected. I did a bit of reading and thought it was something called shot hole which I think is a fungal infection.
I will follow your advice and the link.
Cheers
