..very nice churchyard grounds Mr Edwards.... always a pleasure to walk around these if they are accessible...there are some around the south coast downs I used to visit a lot...including St Bartholomew's at Burwash which had associations with Rudyard Kipling... I always think Hollyhocks and a climbing red rose look just right against old church walls...
...the one on this link would be manna from Heaven for most of us I should think....and just as fascinating as many well known gardens down that way... we used to stay near there for our holidays at one time...
Scott - that was the one & only church pic I had on file. I do like to see churchyard pics and we do have some really nice examples locally......even stained glass windows are an art in themselves.
One way to allow flowers to get established in amongst the grass is to sow yellow rattle seed in the autumn - its parasitic on grass, so helps weaken bits of it to allow the flowers a bit of space.
we have a meadow which is gradually getting more flowery - but we are in year 7, so not an instant project
I raked small patches to expose bare soil, sprinkled on seed (you can get it in bulk online) and then trampled it in. That was 2 years ago and it is now seeding itself all over the place. I am now growing flowers in plugs to plant in amongst it later in the year. We get loads of different flowers in there anyway, and the butterflies, grasshoppers and insects love it. Got a bit of a bracken problem at the moment, but bashing my way through it bit by bit

Saline, if I was the vicar of St Just's I'd never do any work other than gardening. Looks stunning. I'm just a tad jealous!

Thanks chick. I hope to be here for a while so happy for it to develop slowly. Should I rake the area before sowing the yellow rattle seed?
Sorry chicky. Autocorrect removed the y and I didn't notice.
