Kevin, start with offering to write a free column for your local free-press.advertiser etc.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Kevin, you aren't going to get a paid job with no experience, I've also looked at your website, I gather with it being called the gardening times it's meant to be text heavy, but it's very blunt and imposing, surely a gardening blog calls for lots of photos? I was the editor of my school, and then college newspaper once upon a time, and volunteered with my town's newspaper, and even though I was talented I never received a paid job, I had experience on my side, but no formal qualification in it.
Make your blog more inviting, friendly, and more importantly modern, offer to guest write on more popular blogs, websites, write reviews on products you've used, and talk to your local papers, not excluding the local news websites. I'm sorry if I've burst your bubble, but as much as I hate to tell you, you will find it difficult landing any job in newspapers with no experience. Stick with your paying job for now and email the relevant people yourself at the weekends. Don't forget gardening for most people is a seasonal thing, and only really garners interest from the masses this time of the year, come October, Joe Bloggs won't really give much of a damn about his garden again until late next spring, and editors know that.
Hello, I just joined the forum, after I looked in Google for some advice on Tomatoes, the advice I found was very good, so I thought it would be a good idea to join and share some great info from experienced gardeners.
I see from your personal profile you've had a bit of a health fright! Hope you're feeling much better now - enjoy your garden - it's the best thing for health I know. I've been retired since 5th November, and my blood pressure has plummeted after being sky high!
