Can any one tell me what this is

imageWhat is this plant, I have had it in my garden for 2years, and now have a 10 week old grandson, is it harmfull.

    It;'s Acanthus mollis, I'm afraid I don't know if it's poisonous

    Thank you, thank you, one no all at my clud told me it was a hogweed a relative of Japanese notweed and dig it up an burn it, but my wife like it, she will be so pleased,

    There are no known hazards listed.

    Mine grew to about 3 foot.  Then it had a great many large seeds and it began to grow everywhere.  It looks lovely but if you don't want too many don't let it seed itself.

    I've never had a self set. It's interesting how plants behave differently in our gardens.

    My Acanthus mollis is having a splendid year, a bit behind brjomi's but more flowering spikes than ever before

    Acanthus spinosa can be a bit prickly tho.  

    Acanthus is an ancient plant from the Mediterranean region, reputed to have inspired the design of the Ancient Greek Corinthian Columns image
