Blanket weed uses

Are there any uses for blanket weed. For instance when I fish it out can I put it around new trees as mulch and to tackle the weeds

When I fish out my blanket weed I leave it on the side of the pond for any little creatures to crawl out and then tend to forget it and it sort of disappears. I assume it is just rotting back into the soil (there are lots of plants around the pond. Therefore I guess you will be able to use it as you say Steve.
Makes lovely compost.

I'd go with the leaving for a day, then composting. As F2 says, it does " sort of disappear" so not much use as a weed suppressing mulch. Make more compost and use that to mulch instead.
I plop mine in the bog garden next to the pond...
