Are you able to ID this tree / shrub

I have this growing in the front of a border, it looks like it has been cut back loads as lots of stumps and that is what I did too last year as it is in front of a honeysuckle, underneath a conifer.

Any ideas what it might be ?  Looks familiar but just cant put my finger on it.  It looks like it could be something that has self seeded.

Loads of them in the gardens where I used to work.  Very familiar. The jays used to plant them everywhere and so did the squirrels.

ahh that makes sense we have one out the front.  Can you suggest a good way to kill it off as it just keeps shooting up every year. thanks.

Something like cut into it and apply is is SBK stump killer would that work?

That wouldwork Peanuts. So would removing any green as soon as it shows. Plants can't survive with no leaves
