Thanks Verdun! I was thinking of getting Nematodes but had not got round to it as I didn't know whether to get the leatherjacket or chafer grub solution. I'm off to order the leatherjacket one now tho! Here is a couple of photos of what I've on the surface of the grass over the last couple of weeks.
Those are slugs. Leather jackets grow to about an inch long and are about quarter of an inch thick. The older ones you find early in the year are brown but I don't know what the eggs or newly hatched ones look like.
I spotted a cranefly on the lawn this morning. Nematodes already on order, so will apply as soon as they arrive, fingers crossed the lawn will improve over the next few weeks. I'll do an update then. Thanks Verdun for your help.
There have been huge fat black slufs on my lawn the last two dayd agter the drought broke and we had rain... Fortunately the bulk of my veg has been harvested.. I could use a torch and a pair of rubber gloves and a bucket to collect them.. If the Black birds tried to eat this lot, they wouldn't be able to fly after..
Crane flies are skittering about...and there are so many huge spiders...

Are the creatures in my photos leatherjackets or are these something else?
