plant identification

I have a clump of plants in the garden and I don't know what they are.  The leaves are about 5 inch long and quite narrow with fine hairs. The stems are getting to about 15 inches and also have fine hairs covering the stem. The flower head is small with clusters of very dark buds which appear to open in the sun and close when its dusk. They are red-orange in shade. Any clues please?

    Hi Gilly Gilly image

Can you post some photos of your plants please?  To post a picture on here you click on the green tree icon on the toolbar above where you type your post, and follow the instructions.  I'm sorry but it doesn't work for phones - yet.

    Hi Gilly Gilly,

Sometimes you have to wait a few mins after clicking upload, and once the pic appears click save?

If you think there's a problem with that photo (size maybe) try a different photo as a test.

Don't try any file that's enormous. I don't know if they would load eventually but they take ages. Even with a smallish file it can be minutes rather than seconds. Though that may be down to our pathetically slow broadband

  • Thanks everyone - think I've identified my plant now the good old fashioned way from a book. Looks like helichrysum sanguineum, not seen that one before. Moved in last October so having fun seeing what is appearing in the garden.
