Both look healthy - I'd leave them - you could encourage one to go one way and one the other, but the roots will be even more entwined that the top - I think you'd probably lose both of them and that would be such a shame.
In wild hedgerows the wild clematis vitalba (Old Man's Beard) grows entwined with the woodbine or native honeysuckle and looks amazing.
If your alpina is anything like some of mine, it has lovely seed heads reminiscent of the Old Man's Beard, it will look lovely with the honeysuckle
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Thanks for the advice guys, i'll sleep on it, but consensus seems to be leave it as it's to risky and i might loss one or both and that's a scary thought, i'm with you on the seed heads Dove, i think they are every bit as attractive as the flowers, but i'm not the one driving this move, just put my foot down and tell her it's staying..
The fact taking a cutting and growing it on costs nothing would really appeal to her as she's from up north, but i'm not so sure we have the skill level just yet to do that, we have tried various cuttings and failed. I think just tidy them up and let them get on with it is best solution, i did think last night in bed of cutting both back in the Autumn and lifting both at the same time and planting them together again...She just wants decking area in full bloom come the Summer months when we have friends and family over for BBQ's etc etc Hummpphh wimmin...

Buy another - there must be a few bob down the back of the sofa
Honestly it would be a shame to lose either plant by trying to disentangle them at this time of the year. Hope it goes well.

Worth a try
Get another one to put where The Boss wants it - or take a cutting - or is she a mite impatient?

Since she's a Northerner and the sofa will be empty. Try the back of the car seat and under the mattress and buy a new one
Ah there speaks the voice of experience???
