Is it in a damp place and does it smell fishy? Then could be a houttuynia - spreads like wildfire and difficult to eradicate.
I've had a look at the pictures of houttuynia on google and reckon you're right! Got the horrible smell, the right leaves and the right stems! Let's just hope the bugger doesn't come back!
