Hi Guys,

I must have bought this as I found plug material around the roots when I dug it up.

Does anyone know what it is? I thought it was a clematis for a while as I'd planted it very close to a fence. Albeit one without a trellis.

 Thank youimage

    It is a clematis Victoria.

If there are no tendrils and it's not very big it might be one of the herbaceous ones.

    C. recta maybe?

    Ohimage

    Thanks Nutcutletimage

How very odd. I wonder why I bought that.

That explains why it's leaves weren't twining and it can stand up on its own...

Thank you - I'll have to find it somewhere to go now...

It can stand up on its own to some extent. It sprawls, lovely plant

I wonder if I got it instead of a white jasmine. Taylor's website reckons it's scented.

I'll see if it does alright in an east facing border; I've got a corner going spareimage

It is scented, ugh I grew it after I picked up the scent at Wisley many years ago. Easy from seedimage

Looked earlier and had no idea clematis could be like that.  Very healthy looking specimen Victoria.  Any chance of that growing in Scotland - let alone being rampant?  I would really like something to break up a fence. (ohh not literally)image

    Hi Philippa,

I don't know if it is scented- just what I was reading off Nut's suggestion. It's not evergreen though- I spotted it a few months ago when it was a few inches high and it had no older growth whatsoever. I think it must be herbaceous.

I just don't remember getting it image

It's tough as old boots Lesley and self seeds in out gravel drive. Stands about 4 foot tall if it doesn't fall over

Oh good- I'm glad you replied to LesleyK, Nut.

I could have given you a sledgehammer for your fence Lesley but the clematis is news to me tooimage
