Curiously Afflicted Tomato plants!

Hi, I have to share this strange phenomena with my fellow veggie growers. This year I'm growing my Toms in one of those PVC greenhouses. It gets a good dose of sun for around 10+ hours a day and so to stop the plants "cooking" to death, I leave it open and well aired during the day and close it up after the sun is off it. It was all going really well, (probably the best lot of tomatoes I've ever cultivated) However, I was away at the weekend and couldn't open up the greenhouse - when I came to open it up on Monday I was greeted with the sight you can see in the photo's. I'm no real expert in tomato husbandry, but these blighters (pun intended!) seem to be suffering every affliction possible....black spots on some of the leaves, yellow spots on others, leaf curl, leaves that are dry and brittle....the list goes on! It's almost as if they are having a protest at being left alone for 48 hours. I hope they forgive me soon!
Any interesting comments or observations welcomed

I suspect it's leaf scorch that you were doing so well to prevent by cooling them off in he heat of the day!  If so the remedy is obvious.image

  • Yes I agree they looked scorched, especially since Sunday was a warm and sunny day. Your last photo looks like maybe there was water on the leaf and the sun magnified it and burnt the leaf.
