I have just bought a barnsley lavatera and would like to keep it on my patio. The question is, can I keep it in a pot? will it thrive in this environment?
I wouldn't Lesley 4. You could give it a go if you've got a super-huge pot (I'm talking half-barrel sized, minimum). It'd be much happier and longer-lived in the ground though. It likes a sunny and well drained spot and will get to 7 feet tall and the same wide (and front-to-back) so is a fairly biggun.
What size would you recommend. I have just got a few lavatera barnsley and I am thinking about creating a brick wall pot square, but unsure of size. I am going to use it for privacy between me and the next door neighbour, If I wanted to get it to six feet, what size square would I need.

Not one of my favourite plants as they can get very big very quickly, but then I've always had quite a small garden.
If you go for the pot option, like said above, you'll need to have quite a large one.
