What is eating my tomato plants?!

Some critter has eaten my tomato plants, leaving just 3 or 4 inches of stalk! Nearby I saw a bug that looked like a grey maggot, which I think may be a cutworm. Could this be the culprit? I planted a load more but in the morning, same thing - all eaten. My nearby strawberry plants (both toms and strawbs are in containers) are untouched. If it IS cutworms, how do I stop them eating my plants, and if it isn't then what is it??

Thank you

  • Hi, Kerry....this is most probably the 'tomato caterpillar. It's totally green to blend in with the green fruits.

Wow. I've never heard of that one!image

  • Mine were quite young, they didn't have any fruits yet. Never had a prob with toms before, but whatever this is it's DESTRUCTIVE!
