Gooseberry root
While preparing my vegetable patch, i accidentally forked through and cut in half a very sturdy root. It was pretty shallow so am guessing it is from the very mature gooseberry bush near by. Have I killed the bush? A good half metre of the root has been torn full away...... Will it survive?

It will survive - it has other roots, although it may be a bit 'shocked' - I presume it has some fruit on it? If so I'd thin them out, (use them for jam) to give it a bit less to do this summer.

Thanks so much for the feedback. Yes lots of fruit! A good prune and a pick of the fruit then?
Pick every other gooseberry and use them for jam - leave the others to ripen.
Summer prune at the end of this month, shortening every sideshoot to 5 leaves - don't shorten the leaders.
