Cornflowers

RachelERachelE Posts: 3

We prepared some ground and sowed a packet of cornflower seeds in early-mid April, following all the instructions about planting and watering etc, but to date nothing has appeared. Are we being too impatient?

Not impatient, I would have expected action by now.

I wouldn't have thought they'd need much watering this year

I grew mine in seed trays and they germinated quite fast.

I planted mine a little earlier than you did Rachel probably around the beginning of March, they did take quite sometime to 'show' but then grew quite fast.

I have quite a few open now, but lots more to come, so be patient, I was about 6 weeks ahead of you.

    Lovely sarah image

I sowed some in April and they took a while to get going but it was cold and wet here so not surprising. They're not at the stage yours are though. Are they Black Ball?

I sowed some and they came up within 2 to 3 weeks, but then its a heat trap out the back here. Are they in a sunny spot Rachel? Try not to worry, there are lots of variables in gardening as I'm finding out and I'm sure they'll come up.

Hi, thanks for all your replies. We're on top of a hill in North Yorkshire, so everything is weeks behind the rest of the country, but the seeds were planted on the next to our orchard, so they have trees on their eastern side, but they get the sunshine from the middle of the day onwards. I think that we may have a dud batch of seeds...

Sara, they look beautiful! I'm a sucker for the traditional blue, though image
