Wisteria Woes!!!

Oh no! We have a stunning white wisteria running rampant in the hedge. Today we found out it grows round a neighbours tree and they are going to remove it as part of their new garage scheme. Is there anything that can be done to save it? Will it transplant at all - I know they will do their best to try and move it carefully. Advice please!

    Where is the main rootball?

As far as we can tell it's It is on their side, underneath a tree (birch I think) which is due to be removed. The main wisteria stem grows around the tree, then off into the surrounding trees and rhodi hedge.

Well you can take softwood cuttings now, but if it's on your neighbour's side then if they take it out then they have the right to do so. The main rootball will be quite big by now, maybe some negotiation to save it?

I will take some cuttings and yes, they are amenable to trying to save it - just not sure how! If they dig out the rootball without being able to safe the main limbs will it re-grow?

It will regrow, but take some cuttings just in case it doesn't survive the move.
