courgette woes
Git up this morning and the courgette I planted out last week has been eaten. There is a copper ring around it and veggie plot is rabbit proofed.Presume it is a mouse.
Will get another and grow on in pot until a lot larger...is this a good idea??

Oh what bad luck
Slugs are very crafty - is there any way that one could've got to your plant over the copper ring - another plant forming a bridge to a leaf for instance?
They got at my delphinium by climbing a taller plant, which weighed it down until it bent down over the delphinium
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Thanks.
Can't see any leaves close to it or paving slab etc.
Don't slugs live in the soil some of the time? In which case...
Copper isn't perfect when it comes to deterring slugs. It helps but determined large ones will still cross it if there's a favourite meal on the other side. And as Steve alludes to, they can always burrow under the soil to get in..
I like a good allude, me.
Keel slugs live underground all of the time.....feeding mostly on potatoes.
Feeding on my potatoes most of the time I reckon!
