onions
in Fruit & veg
Dose anyone know what the largest type of overwintering onion that is available on the market? this year i've grown tough ball from seed and Senshyu from sets. But about half of the Senshyu have bolted. So I think I'm going to grow all of my onions from seed in future. I grow my main crop (kelsae) from seed and I start it indoors from about july. They seem to grow to a good size. I would like to have some large earlys aswell. Please can someone help!

Hello , I buy Japnese Onions from wilkinson , the last few years and they have over wintered really well
best of luck
ailsa craig can be overwintered
O.K thanks for your advice. If Ailsa craig can be overwintered I think I will try them next year. Come to think of it i bought my Senshyu from Wilkos.
I'm growing Red Electric but can't remember where I bought the sets. Planted 22nd October; swelling now but don't look as if they'll be giants. It'll be good to get some before August though; last year's supply ran out a month ago.
