rosemummy, I always sow Cosmos and put them on my window sill.Then I pot them on while hardening them off.Yours should germinate quite quickly with some warmth
I sow them into a deep tray and plant out in my front border when they are about 6-9 ins with chipped bark as a mulch. No problem with snails/slugs.
