Hole in the trunk of boodgood maple
I have a bloodgood maple tree. Many years ago, we had a very hot summer and the tree trunk developed a hole. Not knowing what to do, I sprayed foam in the hole. It has continued to grow, but the neighbor children poked holes in the foam. I see some small dead branches in the tree now. I'm sure the rain is now entering the truck of the tree. Any ideas as to what I need to do.

I fear rot has set in somewhere Tracy. Was the hole from an injury in the first place? It's very hard to completely seal a hole in a tree even without the kids and their sticks.
A photo of the extent of the damage and the die back might bring forth more suggestions
