clematis alpina
My clematis alpina of 2 years flowered and looked fantastic ...it has now gone to seed but am concerned as it looks very shrivelled up and with very dry leaves. It is in a pot with roots protected from the sun and is currently positioned south westerly in the garden. Am not sure what is wrong with it....any ideas/suggestions??
Thank You!

How big is the pot? Clematis like their roots to be cool - is the pot shaded - not just the soil surface but the whole pot?
Also, has it been fed - clematis are very hungry.
I presume it's been watered frequently in the sunny weather - alpinas have a lot of foliage, that will transpire a lot of moisture in the sunny weather we've been having - it will have needed plenty of watering.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
The stems are fine so not the ptoblem, however the pot is not in shade and it may be during a short dry spell it didn't get all the water it needed although watered regilarly and has also recently been fed too....all does not appear to have been lost. Will see if I can dort some shade out for the pot....thank you pansyface and dovefromabove
