    Hi Jo,

Hope you are doing okay. My daughter told me to mix icing sugar with bicarbonate of soda and the ants take back to their nests and it kills them off. I've tried it and don't seem to have too many this year.

Hi Pam, that sounds an interesting idea, may try as have ingredients in cupboard. Never really happy using ant powder & if get a nest in a compost bin, always do the water so no contamination of the resulting compost. The ants down at Dad's are big, vicious red ones. Am very glad dont have those.

Am doing ok. Energy levels not bad. Having to watch dont bump toes, again, & am keeping finger nails extra short to help not catch them on anything either. Wear gloves routinely when gardening so that's not been a problem. In fact have taken to keeping a thin, flexible pair in kitchen for when nipping out to bins etc.

The  sun has come out again! Well the next few days look as if we're really in for rain bigtime, so shouldnt grumble. J.

It is glorious here, I have put lots of chicken manure pellets in my potato bag and planted up some courgettes it is probably too late but if we could have a few weeks of sunshine they may catch up. I have also made a wigwam for peas and morning glory, ever optimistic.

I will listen to the advice about the ants, last year David K told me that I needed to autumn sow sweet peas for long stems and I do indeed have long stemsimage

I have taken my niece back to the station, I have a feeling she may have been too late for her train but I do not have a supersonic bulldozer .

Hello all--glad to hear you are getting some sun too--another lovely day here, and looks like more to come, finally. I actually ate my first ripe strawberry yesterday!

Today's plan is to work on terracing the steps up to the garden door--can't wait to begin working on my vertical garden! But lots of rocks to move first.

Well for the first time for weeks I have been lounging outside

Did you entertain well Kate?-and that is good about sweet peas-I can see some red things on the runner beans -what are they?

Runtime error again and now the weather bit has gone ???

  • kate1123kate1123 Posts: 2,815

runtime error but I still have weather bit.

I am not sure entertain is the word, my niece has bought a flight to china without checking visa requirements so most of the morning was spent organising thatimage

What is the time lag between flowers and beans?

The weather has returned now -how would I cope without the weather.?image

Your niece and "I will have a little snooze at the airport KG" would make great non-travelling partners

Well flowers- then we need bees and have not seen bees- the lavender is at the end of the row to tempt them -(may market that idea Lord Sugar)-but if they get pollinated then a couple of weeks to picking-vines have not reached top of canes yet-so slooooow

I have lots of bees,  you need some toadflax at the end of the rows, I will suggest to Alan.

The thing is if you leave your visa application late you have to pay through  the nose, she has been to Vietnam and India, I assumed that she had these things sussed.

Can you ask the bees to fly this way?-do NOT use pigeon post-I am relying on the Field of Dreams premise at present.

We are having kebab salad tonightimage-not sure about this

lottie Im impressed how do you get your boys to do their own washing how old are they? Ive tried with mine they used to be so good. But in saying that they do work very hard they leave the house just after 6 and weather depending they wont be home till at least 8pm. They are dry stone dykers.Where can my old neighbour buy a drive belt for his flymo lawn mower without spending £5 for delivery do any of the stores have it b&q nor homebase have them.
