    Afternoon all.

We've been up to tip. The lazy work person there did actually carry stuff back to correct 'dump' for us, after telling us very patronisingly where it should all go next time! image I did know, but daughter of course thought she knew better...... image

I forgot to send Kate good luck- hope she's coping, new jobs horrible IME.

Lottie- I too have a food diary. Started it yrs ago when 'on a diet' & now automatically continue it. It does make you realise just how much you can eat sometimes- a good wakeup call. I dont calorie count as such, but do watch my portion size. Called eating sensibly by me & helps me to stay more or less where I'm happy. Dont really know my weight at the mo, as hospital requires it in metric, so havent a clue! I know if have been 'a pig' & if my clothes suddenly snugger, so 'am strict' again & it all sorts itself out. Having lost quite a bit some yrs back & had to get new clothes a size smaller, I have no intention of going back up a size again with the costs involved!

Next washload ready- it's sunny here, no wind, but will save a wee bit on tumbling time. J.

They have just gone and broken one of my big ornamental pots containing a sambucus. That was the last straw, I rang head office to complain as I didn't receive a phone call to say if they could could start the work early and about my broken pot and what was the point of coming early if their equipment was frozen. I was told I should have been informed and that I could send a receipt in for the pot which they caught on one of their hoses. I'm pretty much annoyed because I did ask them if the pots were far enough away. I suppose it was just an accident though.

Haven't got time to go to G.C. today so will wrap sambucus root ball in bubble wrap and bring it in conservatory for now. Does everyone think that'll be ok ?

Jean have you got any thick cardboard to put round root ball before bubble wrap?

Army man is just, well, organising. Next door (builder) and othe side (eccentric) will be in charge of fireworks.

I'm making toffee apple muffins and apple and sultana muffins

I know some one who used to walk his dog on golf links, collect balls, then sell them back to club!

It is a beautiful day image I finished my article ,been to Sainsburys and am just finishing tidying up the spare room. Over the weekend I sorted through all my seeds, got rid of last years catalogues and have started making lists from the new ones image

I have decided to make more chunky soups - today it is Highlanders Broth - beef, veggies and some pearl barley - not sure if I should cook the barley first - what do you think?

Hi Pam, if I make soup I use a pressure cooker & so just add the pearl barley without pre soaking/cooking since am using 1&1/2pints stock. That is fine for me, but if wasnt using a pressure cooker I may soak,  or pre cook it a bit, but depends on how much liquid you're using i'd think.

Have just spotted some 'poo' on patio. Bit late & cold for hog I would've thought, could be ratty of course after bird feed? image Compost bin that we use for all the kitchen veg waste is still secure- ie no sign of holes around the base.

Trying to psyche myself up to do something this afternoon. Same every Monday, knackered, with OH leaving so early. Today I had to find him a watch as he's either lost/mislaid his normal one. All the 'spare' need new batteries of course- ooh, just reconed that the 'shoe repair' place next to photo shop will have new batteries, can try anyway when go up to collect OH's photos later in week.

Need honey toast now. Daughter off to work soon, so peace again. J.

Yes, Bjay . Thanks for that. image I'll wrap it in that first. I want to come to yours tonight - sounds like good fun and the food sounds yummy image

Pam, when I make scotch broth I put pearl barley in half way through cooking time .They will pay for pot - just have to send receipt in . I'll miss that pot it was one of my favourites. image At least the work has been done - my poor ears image

Sorry for my rant , everyone. image

Just looked pearl barley up and in ancient cook book it says blanch by putting in cold water bringing to boil and then throw water away. Guess it softens outer casing.

Everyone needs a rant Jean. Pleased its all over. You will find rooms hold heat for longer now
