bjay we like to refer to ourselves as Forkers. We are envious not jealous ( have had to differentiate between the 2 words for MIL today) Great photos you have done a lot of work.
Geoff a log fire is great when you have central heating as well. If you have to light the fire 3 hours before you want a bath it gets quite time consuming.
I can remember standing in front of the fire with a big sheet of newspaper trying to get it going-sounds life-threatening now but this was normal behaviour in the olden days
It had a back boiler and there was always the immersion but that was used sparingly-when we were little we had a tin bath in the kitchen (that is a true story)
Lovely photos, bjay--great to document a work in progress. I lit my log fire yesterday---here in Canada we have been having a drought, but the last few days have been foggy and damp. Welcome to the forum. Wish I had a friendly neighbour with a digger!
Rain tomorrow, thank goodness. It's been 3 months!
There was a chimney sweep-soot for the garden-a boiler that stank the house out and a wringer-2tv channels- in black and white and no day-time tv-absolute nightmare
Oh and Twink-on Saturdays when the hairdresser would call
We used a big china sink for my baths - trendy Belfast sinks now. Never mind no daytime TV - no commputers, and chat rooms and easy communication. Do you remember letters?

Geoff my mum is still using the newspaper trick, much to my horror.
Was it grim in the good old days.
